Flower Pounding

Flower pounding is the technique of reverse dyeing on fabric using organic items. Basically, you are pounding the pigment contained in flowers and /or greens and transferring it to treated fabric. Students will create their own masterpieces using available flowers and greens.

Wet felting is the method of interlocking and compacting wool fibers which are first drenched in soap water and then rubbed until fabric has the same thickness. You will be creating a piece of felt using the wet felting technique and will be provided with many ideas of how and where to use your creation.

This project is based on two different cultural Textile Arts- Molas from Central American to create an echoing outline, combined with Seminole Strip piecing techniques to create a graphic colorful insert. To make the project faster and easier, fusing will be encouraged for the applique parts but, the project can also be hand appliqued if preferred. Day 2 of class (which is paid separate) is for the border.
Skill level: Confident beginner

These are little "tablets" of fabric, stamped or stenciled, embroidered and encrusted with beads or ephemera. You can start with plain fabrics and paint/stamp your own symbols of icons on them. After completing the individual tiles, you will join them together into an assemblage with beaded spacers to make a small piece of wall art.
